Fazila Hashim, Membership Chair
I am both honored and thrilled to be part of the GWAMIT Exec Board this year as Membership Chair! I previously earned my MSc in Immunology from Imperial College London, and my BSc in Biomedical Sciences (Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia). I am currently active within the MIT Spouses and Partners, the Significant Others of Sloan (SOS), and in local food/gardening networks within the Boston area. While I was in the UK, I was a teaching volunteer at a weekend school for women and children, and in Malaysia I served at the Exec Board for the Kuantan Chapter of the Ladies’ Society of Petronas (PETRONITA) for several years as Education and Welfare Chairs. My roles were mainly to develop, organize and deliver targeted programming for members, their children and disadvantaged families. Being part of the vibrant MIT community has been an immense boon to me, and in return I hope to be able to support and help build meaningful connections between different sectors of the MIT graduate women society. In my free time I enjoy reading a variety of materials from science fiction to fantasy to technical articles on health, as well as cooking, eating, taking pictures of food, food gardening, volunteering, deep conversations, hugging cats and attending enrichment courses.
