Whitney Hess, Events Chair

I am a fifth year PhD student in the Chemistry Department. My research focuses on emerging materials for low temperature, solution processed thin film solar cells. Specifically, I study how surface modification of semiconductor quantum dots affects solar cell performance. Prior to MIT, I received a BS and MS in Chemistry from Idaho State University. Throughout my time here at MIT, I have been passionate about empowering women in the sciences and supporting my peers in the Chemistry Department as an active member and Co-President of Women in Chemistry and as a ChemREFS. I am so excited to now be more active in this larger community of women at MIT by serving on the GWAMIT Exec Board as Events Co-Chair! I look forward to supporting personal and professional growth, facilitating connection building, and empowering the women within this vibrant community. In my free time, I enjoy doing yoga, cooking and baking, crocheting, volunteering at a school in my neighborhood through the ACS Science Coach Program, and spending time with my husband and dog.
